Y'all!!! It's here! It's finally here!! I am back to offering in person sessions!!
I've seen a handful of my regulars so far and I can't even begin to describe the level of joy it has brought me. To sit in the same physical space with you, to get to react in actual real time to your thoughts and feelings, to not worry about the syncing of our voices and video, to not worry about a freezing video or a dropped connection has been an incredible experience. :-) Virtual counseling for sure was a blessing so that we could continue the work in the super strange time but I'm so happy that we can even consider in person options. That being said - if virtual is still the best option for you - I'm more than happy to go that route too. (Now, for those of you with private insurance we'll have to keep checking that your insurance benefits will continue to cover it - but we will figure that out together and make plans around that!) I've been reaching out to clients on my schedule in the upcoming week. If you haven't seen that email, check your junk folder, and if you still don't see it, get in touch with me! I have a lot of news to share with you about the new location, checking in, parking, etc etc. :-) Y'all. A little over a year ago I made the choice to transition all sessions to telehealth. I honestly thought this would be in place for maybe six months. I had no idea a year later we would still be doing this telehealth thing. But, now there is an end to telehealth only in sight! Well, sort of. Keep reading. ;)
I have received my first COVID vaccine and I am scheduled for my second dose later this month. Two weeks after that I will be offering in person options! YAY!!!! That being said, I see the future of my private practice moving in the direction of having both options available. So please know that if you prefer to keep your sessions virtual you are more than welcome to do so. My job is to create a safe, healthy and comfortable space for you. And that can happen virtually as well as in person. Oh! And you may have noticed, but I have moved! Again! I sincerely hope this is the last move for a very very very long time. :-) I'm still in downtown Shelbyville but right off Main Street. The office is actually in a building that used to be a drive thru bank station. And while it would be so cool to say that you could have "drive thru" counseling where you get to stay in your car and talk through a speaker, the speakers are no longer there so we don't even get to try it out. As disappointing as that is, I think you'll love the new place! I am located right next door to a yoga studio and an acupuncture office. One of my new neighbors refers to our area as the "triangle of wellness". Which I love. Because many of you know by now how important I believe the body and mind connections to be to both our physical and mental health. I love you all. I miss seeing you in person but I'm so honored you've allowed me to stay in your lives in these odd and strange times we live in. I can't wait to see you all again when you're ready for it. :-) Grace and Peace to you all, Cassie Oh man guys. I never in my life would have imagined a time that I would need to write a post like this one. We are living in strange times. Like many of you I have been watching the unfolding events of the coronavirus as it has progressed and traveled the world. I have experienced anxiety, worry, concern and even fear as it seems we are given different information each and every day.
In light of the recommendations for social distancing I have made the decision to offer only video sessions for the time being (also known as telehealth.) This is a temporary change and I hope to return to in person sessions as soon as it is possible to do so in a safe manner. I know this change is hard and will be difficult. And I completely understand that. If video sessions are not right for you then I respect that decision and will meet with you once restrictions are lifted. Send me an email or text or and we will go over options for weekly check in emails should you need them. We can also discuss the emergency services available. If you have technical challenges (lack of access to a reliable internet connection or a device etc), please let me know and we will see what we can arrange. Lastly, I want to remind myself and everyone else to stay kind throughout this whole process. We are all doing the very best we can to go through a situation that feels unprecedented on so many levels. Warmest of Wishes, Cassie All change is hard, even good change. I have a big change coming up; Sparrow Counseling is moving to a new location! 712 Washington Street has been my home for the last year as I have built this business. It's been a good home; it's cozy, it's adorable and it's been a good home to hear your stories and be invited on your journeys. As much as I have enjoyed and loved this home, it is time to move this business to a new home.
The good news is that the new place is only a few blocks away! On June 1st, 2019 the doors will be opened at our new location - 409 Washington Street. For those of you familiar with Shelbyville, you may recognize the address as belonging to the Spectrum Cable Company. Which indeed it does. Sparrow Counseling will be located directly across the hall. One of the benefits of moving will be additional parking! With the move, clients will now have the option of parking in a public parking lot instead of having to find a place on the street. I am most excited about this as I know how challenging the parking situation has been at the current location. Sparrow Counseling will have its own private waiting room so you don't need to worry about people seeing you wait in the hallway while they are visiting the other businesses in the building. I will continue to create the cozy and inviting environment you have become accustomed to. And I will continue to provide you a space to grow and heal as you learn more about yourself and your life. One thing I've learned in my personal life is that "home" is not based on the location, or the furniture, or the neighborhood. It is based on the people and the experiences. Those things will stay the same in the new location and I look forward to continuing the work in a new place. We're having an open house! We want to open our doors and introduce ourselves to the community to share our visions, our hopes and give out information on our services. The event will be on Thursday August 16th from 6pm - 8pm.
We are also partnering with Usborne Books & More to have a book fair at the same time! You'll get to see their selection of kids' books and find resources for your kids. Whether you're a parent, teacher, school counselor, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc you'll find something your kids will love! My favorites are the books that help you talk about mental health issues and I'm particularly excited about the workbook called "No Worries"! You can check it by clicking the button below. We hope you can make it out to see our space, eat some food, and learn more about what we do. I am so excited to welcome Jenny Townsend, LCSW to join us! Jenny will be working alongside Sparrow Counseling to provide quality services to our hometown! I have found Jenny to be kind, compassionate and deeply caring. I know she will be doing wonderful things as she gets ready to accept new clients right away! She starts on August 15th, so call today to get set up! Check out her website here:
